Gears Preserve on Turning Till the Finish
Alongside numerous other exclusive titles, Xbox bagged Gears of War back in 2006. The series, developed by Epic Games, focuses on the Delta Squad and the other handful of scattered human inhabitants of Sera as they battle against the subterranean menace that is the Locust Horde.
You take control of grizzled, battle-hardened Marcus Fenix, voiced by John DiMaggio, whose adventures have extended into comic book and novel form. Alongside the reluctant leader of Delta Squad are an array of fascinating and colourful characters such as Dominic Santiago and Augustus “Cole Train” Cole.
Gears of War three brings the fantastic, pulse-pounding trilogy to an end on September 20th. Not only have Epic Games made a wonderful series of games with a story that twists and turns with every chapter, the marketing campaign has been brilliant too.
Proving that games are an crucial form of entertainment and not “just for children”, Epic created awe-inspiring theatrical trailers for every game, every single on a cinematic scale with a soundtrack that thrilled and haunted us in anticipation of the next segment of the trilogy.
Here’s a re-cap of those beautifully crafted trailers:
Gears of War
Tiny did we know what we had been letting ourselves in for when we initial saw Marcus Fenix patrolling the streets right after Emergence Day. Soon he is pursued by an unseen enemy that we only meet at the finish of the trailer. The sound of Gary Jules’ cover of “Mad World” offset the tone perfectly leaving the 1st look at one of Gear’s most wonderful creatures all the far more chilling…
Gears of War 2
Showing the image of a poppy close to the starting of the commercial brought a genuine planet symbol of war to the Gears saga. We had been shown our heroes preparing to take the fight to the Locusts Marcus, deep in believed, seated below a tree Cole focused fully at the task at hand and Dom reminiscing tearfully more than a picture of his wife. DeVotchKa provided the song “How It Ends” suggesting, mournfully, that the war may possibly price a lot more to Delta Squad than they could be aware of…
The second trailer, Rendezvous, came with Trans AM’s “Diabolical Cracker”. We saw a furious Marcus Fenix charge into battle against the Horde. Shots had been fired amidst the chaos and this thrilling instalment turned the tide on the Locusts – our team would quit at absolutely nothing to end the terror inflicted by this menace.
Gears of War three
This was the 1st time an advertisement for Gears began with us seeing Dom, racing through the streets of a town devastated by the effects of the war. Bodies stand frozen in ash, echoing the derelict, however perfectly preserved streets of Pompeii. As the Locusts chase Delta Squad, we see that they too are the ones being hunted – the Lambent have arrived. This seemingly unstoppable force might prove to be the undoing of both races as they struggle for survival on Sera.
Sun Kil Moon offers the song “Heron Blue”. Note the tagline “Brothers to the end” fade away to just “The Finish”. This indicates the finale for Delta Squad’s story.
The most current “Dust to Dust” trailer drops us straight into the middle of an action-packed battle supported by Mazzy Star’s “Into Dust”. On closer inspection, you will note that this is a compilation of action from the 1st two Gears games that subtly leads into the third via a faux time-lapse photography style. Definitely a clever piece of operate. When once again you’ll notice the fade on “The Finish”…
And finally, I supply a treat for Gears fans. This video was released as one more teaser and a recap over the Gears of War saga – the opening cinematic from Gears of War three. Get pleasure from and remain powerful for The Brothers… till The Finish.
